Mental Heath & Crisis Resources
Studies show that LGBTQ+ adults and youth face an extraordinarily elevated risk of suicidal thoughts and behavior. The ostracism and discrimination that LGBTQ+ persons encounter in church and religious settings can often reinforce and perpetuate the negative thought patterns that lead to self-harm.
In 2019, nearly 40 states in the US have introduced legislation to ban conversion therapy and 16 states have existing conversion therapy bans. The American Psychiatric Association has concluded that “no credible evidence exists that any mental health intervention can reliably and safely change sexual orientation” and that ultimately conversion therapy is a discredited and harmful practice.
If you are experiencing thoughts of self-harm or suicide, we encourage you to immediately seek help from a friend, partner, or qualified health worker. After you seek help from a person you trust, we recommend you connect with any of the following service providers. UNCHANGED will contact one of the following service providers if you are unable to do so yourself if you provide your name, address, phone number, treating doctor details and current location to unchanged@qchristian.org or (317) 447-3680. For immediate life threatening or dangerous situations, call 911 for emergency services in the United States.
